Traits

Endless Gibbering. Every enemy within 30 feet of the Gibberling that can hear it has Disadvantage on the first Concentration save it makes in a turn. If multiple Gibberlings trigger this at once, the effect does not stack.

Pack Frenzy. If the Gibberling has at least two allies, not Incapacitated, within 5 feet, it makes its attacks with Advantage.

Sunlight Sensitivity. While in Bright Light, attack rolls and sight-based Perception checks are made with Disadvantage.

Actions

Claws. Melee Attack Roll: +4, reach 5 ft. Hit: 5 (1d6 + 2) Slashing damage.

How to Use

Gibberling is never used alone. It is designed for swarms — 8–16 arrive at once.

  • Against a 4-person Lv2 party: 8 Gibberlings = 800 XP. Budget (Medium) = 150×4 = 600. This is High difficulty, but Gibberlings die like paper and Sleep / Thunderwave / Burning Hands mow them down. A perfect encounter for teaching casters the value of area spells.
  • Endless Gibbering is the real threat: the party's caster can't hold Concentration. This keeps the "swarm of weak enemies" encounter from being routine.
  • Sunlight Sensitivity gives the party leverage — a torch, Daylight, or postponing the fight until morning.

Balance Note

The real risk in a swarm monster is action economy, not HP. 8 Gibberlings make 8 attacks in a round. In a Lv2 party this can be deadly. Recommendation: start with 6 on first use; if the party crushes it easily, make the next wave 10.
