Sheet Phantom
Traits
False Appearance. While the Sheet Phantom remains motionless, it is indistinguishable from an ordinary bedsheet. A DC 15 Intelligence (Investigation) check is required to notice this.
Smother Form. The Sheet Phantom can squeeze through a gap as narrow as 1 inch wide, without spending extra movement to do so.
Sunlight Weakness. While in Bright Light, its Speed is halved and its attacks are made with Disadvantage.
Actions
Multiattack. The Sheet Phantom makes two Suffocating Wrap attacks; if it has used Engulf, only one.
Suffocating Wrap. Melee Attack Roll: +5, reach 5 ft. Hit: 7 (1d8 + 3) Bludgeoning damage, and if the target is Medium or smaller, it must make a DC 13 Strength save. Failure: The target has the Grappled condition (escape DC 13).
Engulf (Recharge 4–6). The Sheet Phantom completely envelops a Grappled creature. The target makes a DC 13 Constitution save.
- Failure: The target is Blinded and Restrained, and cannot breathe. At the start of its turn it takes 10 (3d6) Bludgeoning damage.
- Success: The target is freed from being Grappled and falls next to the Sheet Phantom.
A creature that has been Engulfed can spend an action to attempt to break free with a DC 13 Strength (Athletics) check.
How to Use
This monster's sole purpose is to feed the players' paranoia. The right scene:
"You go up to the second floor of the abandoned inn. There are sheets on the beds. Three of them. One is twitching slightly — or so you thought."
False Appearance DC 15 is critical: in a Lv3 party, Passive Investigation is usually 11–13, so they won't notice. This is necessary for the trap to work.
Engulf is the real danger — a character who can't breathe enters the Suffocation rules (06_Kurallar_Sozlugu_5e.md). But Sunlight Weakness gives the party a clear lever: open a window, cast Daylight, not just a torch but real sunlight.
Balance Note
A single Sheet Phantom is Low difficulty for a 4-person Lv3 party (450 XP vs. 900 budget). Use two — one Engulfs a character while the other blocks whoever comes to rescue them. Don't use more than three: if 3 characters are Engulfed at once, the encounter turns into "nobody can do anything" and the fun ends.
